The visit by Daylesford to Skipton this week saw our Under 12s try hard but suffer their first defeat this season. A very good Daylesford outfit kept Skipton scoreless for the first time in a long time. Coach Draffin and helpers kept the positive encouragement going all game but the efforts couldn’t match the Daylesford class. Skipton 0.0-0 to Daylesford 7.10-52. Pinky’s Pizza went to George Wills and Skipcoin to Harry Collins .
The Under 15s continue to improve each week, while they seem to be untroubled by the opposition score lines this year, the improvement and work they do on playing as a team is great to see. Kelvin with the assistance of Al have the boys playing better as a team every game.
Skipton 11.8-74 to 2.0-12. Awards were Pinky’s to Charlie Savage, and Skipcoin to Nathan Dean.
Daylesford have similar numbers to Skipton in the Under 18s and with all things being equal our team took the opportunity to shine. We might be light on for quantity but not quality. Our boys play a running long kicking game that puts a lot of pressure on the opposing team. An entertaining game to watch Skipton victorious 13.14-92 to 1.3-9. Pinky’s award to Jack Liston, Skipcoin to Brayden McCarthy and Emu Creek Deli to Lachlan Smyth.
The reserves welcomed back several players, including Lachie Wilkie, Josh Grist and Tim Gawne straight of the plane from the orient. This team if half fit and used to playing together would be a very good seconds side. Let’s hope that down the track they are able to come together as a unit.
Skipton lost to Daylesford, 3.3-21 to 9.6-60. Lachie Parker and Josh Grist received the awards. Calcutta syndicates with Kirby and Lachie Parker are in the money.
The Senior game saw Skipton struggle with team work early, not kicking a goal until half way through the second quarter, with the defence playing well but under pressure. Things started to click for Skipton after half time, with our side gradually increasing the pressure. At the three quarter time break it seemed the game was there fo the taking, but we had our hearts in our mouths when Daylesford quickly kicked the first two majors of the final term. Our boys to their credit came back hard, kicking seven goals for the rest of the game while Daylesford could only manage one more. We hit the front with minutes to go, and the vocal crowd erupted, and then roared on the final siren. What a day!
Skipton 10.10-70 to 8.12-60. Syndicates that have Josh Draffin and Andy Fay have a return.
A mixed bag of netball for us this week as we took on daylesford at home. The 13b girls continue on their merry way and had another great win 13 to 3. Its wonderful watching their skills develop each week. Awards this week went to Keeley Clark and Addison Maxted.
Club legend, Kate morcombe, stepped in as replacement coach for our under 13 girls this week and is this weeks writeup.
Kate said the under 13 girls lost to a strong Daylesford team 5 to 11. Our girls created many turnovers in the mid court but the opposition defence made scoring difficult for Skipton.
In the second half they worked on moving forward for the ball and this enabled us to score more freely. Award winners were silver victorsen and emma gowans.
Thanks for helping out kate!
The under 15 girls played some good netball with girls working hard on things fiona had asked them too. Unfortunately it wasnt quite enough as they went down 12 to 22. Awards went to Alexandra Grieves and Gemma Richardson.
It was a tight tussle in the under 17 game with scores extremely close throughout the duration. Daylesford managed to just sneak the last couple of goals to take the win 20 to 23. Annie Elliot and Josie Castles received the awards.
It was another close one in c grade with the same losing margin for our girls, going down 24 to 27. They tried valiantly in the exciting match but couldn't quite get there. Skipcoin Awards to Alee Bryce and jess whiteside and tin box to vivian johnson knight who stepped up from the under 17s to help out!
B grade are back on the winners list getting up by more than the scoreboard suggested, 33 to 14. It was a big unknown going into A and B grade this week with Daylesford unable to field sides last year. Some great team work by the girls with skipcoin awards to Natalie Clark and Amy Dridan and Emu Creek Deli to Jaymee Crack.
A grade also scored the 4 points with a big win 50 to 16. With a big shortage of girls this week they had a couple of b graders step up along with under 17 player Annie Elliott in her first A grade game. Annie was presented with a medallion for the occasion after her fantastic efforts on court.
Skipcoin Awards went to Hannah Smythe and Amelia pollock and the Skinny Sisters to Hayley Jones.
Great work by all teams and good luck next week against Bungaree! Go Emus!
