ROUND 7 V GORDON

May 29, 2018

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Bailey and Blake played their 100th game respectively for the mighty Emus this week, congratulations on this great achievement!

 Football

Skipton turned on the great weather again for our games against Gordon on the weekend. Plenty of local support in evidence and the opposition were well supported.

The Under 12s played well under fill in coach Warwick Read, we wish James Draffin all the best with his back ailment recovery, but be aware Draff, someone is eyeing off your job! Skipton 6.5-41 to Gordon 0.0-0. Pinky’s Pizza award went to Laine Scott, Skipcoin to Tiger Williams. Well done boys.

The Under 15s came up against another undefeated side in a test for their team play. They hit the ground full of enthusiasm looking to help Bailey Meek and Blake Scott celebrate their 100th games. After an evenly matched first half Skipton were able to control a relatively low scoring game, winning 7.6-48 to 4.2-26. Awards went to Bailey Meek for Pinky’s pizza , and Marty Boyer received the Skipcoin.

The Under 18 game was a familiar affair, as I have said before Skipton have a quality list but are 5 players short on quantity. Such is the nature of junior football, your fortunes change yearly in a cyclical nature as players move in and out of age groups. Despite this, as in every other game they play, our team gives it their all, and are continuing to learn and improve under coach Chris Jones. Final score, Skipton 3.5-24 defeated by Gordon 11.7-73. Pinky’s went to Lachy Wills, Skipcoin to Cree Stranks, Emu Creek Deli to Jake Crack.

The reserves continued their good form, victorious again, racking up the wins! A good team effort saw them get away from Gordon in the later stages of the game, winning 9.6-60 to 3.10-28. Lachlan Parker and Daniel Hopkinson received the awards for their efforts.

The senior game at times looked promising for Skipton, after a good start by Gordon, Skipton closed the gap and seemed to have momentum at the end of the third term. Unfortunately that was where we finished with Gordon piling on the goals in the last to run away with the game. It was a disappointing end to a game we looked to be competitive in. As our team grows in confidence and experience these inconsistencies will become less common and improvement will continue. We have to recognise that we come a long way in 12 months as a side, and even with results like this, there is still plenty of upside in this list for Greg to work on. Final score, Skipton 6.8-44 to 17.12-113.

Netball

The sun was shining on our netballers as we took on Gordon at home on Saturday with our under 15 girls providing the success story of the day.

A report from the coach, Fiona Collins!

It has been great to see the girl’s enthusiasm for netball continue to grow, they have been working hard at training and are continuing to develop their game play. The girls started with determination and confidence with Paige K and Kate focused on their defence and gaining possession of the ball.

It was fantastic to see that their footwork was outstanding and that the girls in the centre court were able to apply their tactical understanding to different situations within the game, working together to progress the ball up the court using several different passes and being aware of their space.

Sophie, Alex and Charlotte made some excellent moves in the ring resulting in lots of great goals and at the end of the game we had our first win 21 to 10!

The girls put on a superb performance and showed how much they have improved over the past few weeks; they were organised, disciplined and dominated play from the get go with superb passing and movement. The girls should be extremely proud of the improvement they have made as individuals as well as a team.

In other games our under 13b girls had some bigger stronger opposition but remain undefeated with a 10 goal to 2 win. Awards went to Ruby Gardiner and Cate Connell.

The 13a girls also had a great win getting up 16 to 11. Silver Victorsen and Tess Bingham received the awards

Unfortunately thats where the wins ended with the under 17s going down 19 to 28. Annie Elliott and Sophie Danieli tried hard to take the awards.

C grade were up against a consistent top 8 side and went down 30 to 43 with Anna Walker, Jess Whiteside and Bec Walker taking the awards.

B grade should have had the win and went from a 4 goal lead to a disappointing  3 goal loss.   Awards to Amy dridan, Georgie fay and Natalie Clark.

A grade were undermanned this week and the juniors that stepped up, Paige Follett and Pas Sheriff, along with the determined Laura Fay  deserved the awards in the tough 10 to 60 goal loss.

So hopefully we can get a few more wins on the board next week when we meet Buninyong at Buninyong to give us something to celebrate at the ball.

Next week we travel to Buninyong, then return to the Skipton Hall for our Masquerade Ball. This will be great evening and we would like to extend an invitation to all in the Skipton and district community to come and join in the fun. All we need to do is dress up and have a mask for a fun night, All welcome!
