ROUND 8 v BUNINYONG
The Buninyong oval is a fantastic football surface , even though a little frosty early it was great for our teams to play on. The chill lifted with the sunshine and it was as good a day as any we have had so far. James Draffin returned to his coaching duties this week at Buninyong. His Under 12 team had a big test in a very low scoring game. The youngsters sometimes looked a bit lost on the expanse of the wide Buninyong oval, making it very difficult to score when trapped out wide. The contest ended in a draw, 1.4-10 apiece. Best players S. Kennedy, H. Draffin, P. Gowans, D. Alexander, A. Wills, C. Cahill.
The Under 15 side got out of the blocks well, making the most of the breeeze scoring 4.3-27 to 0.0-0 in the first quarter. They managed to contain Buninyong when they had the breeze in the second, and the game continued in that fashion with Skipton managing to score a goal against the wind in the last, taking the margin out to 33 points. Skipton 9.7-61 to Buninyong 4.4-28. Best players B. Scott, L. Wills, J. Sheehan, M. Boyer, B. Nash, J. Liston
The Under 18s played a good Buninyong outfit, a top four side that played the large ground very well. While there were some encouraging individual performances and passages of play, for the most part it was Buninyong’s day. New player Mitchell Miller from Sebastopol on permit. We hope Mitch enjoyed himself and sees a future for himself and his family with the Emus! Skipton 4.3-27 defeated by Buninyong 13.8-86. Best players M. Grieve, B. Uwland, H. Tompkins, A. Jackson, C. Stranks, F. Morcombe
The reserves were a bit light on with missing players and injuries, but it is a credit to see that a full side played despite this. Last year we would have been stretched very thinly with so many missing, so well done everyone concerned. Buninyong are a very strong senior club and it showed in the final score , 1.0-6 to 17.22-124. Best players
S. Robson, J. Grist, A. McLean, J. McPhan, M. Smith, J. Robson
The senior game was a tough one , the score shows we are better than last year, but it was clear that Buninyong are better as well. They hit their straps early with a nine goal opening term and while Skipton had a good quarter and some good passages of play , Buninyong powered away to win by a large margin. Skipton 6.8-44 to 21.17-143. Best players J. Draffin , H. Young, A. Mason, A. Pitson, M. Young, C. Townrow
It was a tough day out when we took on Buninyong at Buninyong last saturday with some close senior scores and great attempts at come backs but a massive task for our juniors.
With the big local numbers around the town, Buninyong always have a huge selection to choose from when it comes to thier netball teams. This was extremely evident across all grades when we met.
Our under 13bs continue to develop and had another great win 14 goals to 3. They are playing well as a very versatile little team. Awards this week went to Sophie Collins and Addi Corbett.
The rest of our junior teams were up against it and unfortunately found it hard to compete with the height and standard of the opposition. The coaches were pleased with the girls working on goals from training and they continue to keep pushing for four quarters regardless of the scoreline.
Awards in 13as went to Kailah scott and Lily Connell.
15s awards went to Gemma Richardson and Sophie Cook while Abbey Tiley and Megan Liston took home the 17s.
C grade had a tale of 4 quarters, winning the 2nd and 4th quarters but Buninyongs 5 goal lead after the 1st meant that regardless of our success we couldn't quote catch up, going down 29 to 36. It was one of the best games i have umpired for the girls and they played extremely well as a united team. Awards went to Jess Whiteside, Bec Walker and Caitlyn Pitcher.
The story was similar for b grade but we took two quarters to warm into it! After being as much as 14 down early in the 3rd we started a come back and won the second half but unfortunately we could only make up 7 of the 14, going down 34 to 41 in the end. We were all very pleased with the fight we showed throughout. Amy lodge, Amy Dridan and Georgie Fay were the award winners.
A grade were up against incredible height practically down the whole court. They had decided to try some positional changes this week in the hope of something new working but Buninyong were way to polished and tall for our girls to make a big impact. They eventually went down 9 to 63 with awards going to Laura Fay and Pas Sherriefs.
After enjoying the long weekend off we meet Ballan in Skipton. Would be great to have lots of supporters to get behind all our girls.
We then have our under 13b girls playing in the Lightning Premiership over at Hepburn on Sunday 17th. This is a round robin format and the girls chance to experience finals if we make it. Hopefully the weather will be kinder than last year and we get the days play in. We are all very much looking forward to it.
Thanks to everyone involved in the Masquerade Ball, it was a great night for the club and community. Great time had by all and it couldn’t happen without everyone putting in to set up, organise on the night and clean up the next day. Also huge thanks to No Plans for the music entertainment and to Lynelle Day from Beaufort for the awesome grazing table, if you ever need music or catering for your function these are your people.
