NETBALL
Woo hoo hoo! A pretty good day for our netballers today at Rokewood!
It was a daunting opposition who were warming up before our under 13b game and after asking, we found out that our under 13b girls were going to be coming up against rokewoods under 13a side. Due to a limited number of girls, they play the same team in both grades. So they were alot taller and alot older and not what we were expecting!
So the girls chose to throw the roster out the window for the day and play in the positions they play best. This strategy started well, getting the first goal on the board and setting the scene for an amazing game. The girls produced some great strong passes, fantastic pressure over the ball, determined intercepts and some wonderful forward drives. They didn't let the oppositions height get to them and adjusted their play accordingly. It was an incredible effort and a great opportunity for Tilly Neville to have a good run with the older girls and with some great efforts, tilly took home the bakery award. The final score of 9 to 5 was a very pleasing team effort therefore no other single awards were handed out. Well done girls, a challenge you handled extremely well.
13a The rokewood girls then backed up again against our under 13a girls. It took our girls a while to settle in, the first half a close affair and we couldn't get a run on. A few more changes were made and we started to produce better netball and play to our usual standard. We steadied and turned the result to our advantage with the final score 15 to 7. Awards went to Holly Draffin and Alice Liston.
15s Rokewood unable to field an under 15 side so we took the 4 points!
17s A close first quarter saw a small lead for our under 17 girls before Rokewood hit back and were in the lead for the next two changes. Then we hit our straps! A huge exciting last quarter with some incredible turnovers saw a 10 goal to 2 quarter which gave Skipton a 6 goal win in front of a very vocal crowd. Positional changes seemed to have a huge impact and great shooting by Megan Liston saw her take an award along with Abby Tiley for her work in the center court. Very exciting, Well done girls.
Cgrade The theme then continued with another exciting but this time heart breaking game for c grade. The start wasn't our best and at half time we were 7 goals down but it was again the last quarter and after some changes that our best play showed. It was wonderful to have Bianca O'callaghan back for the game today, giving her the chance to play with the girls she used to coach. All girls stepped it up a notch in the last, great shooting, tight defence and after levelling the scores in the dying minutes, Rokewood took a 2 goal win. Very impressive effort girls! The awards went to Ruby Bingham, stepping up from 17s, Anna Walker and Lily Bingham, but a great team effort.
Bgrade are back on the winners list and deserved the accolades after an incredibly physical and frustrating game from Rokewood. Our girls worked on playing their style of game and not succumbing to Rokewoods inappropriate behavior which only seemed to undermine their ability. This just made our girls more determined to play great netball and that they did. Amy Dridan in goals, Amy Lodge in center court and Georgie Fay in defence took the well earned awards today.
Agrade couldn't stop a fast and young opposition today. Rokewood got a big jump early and were moving the ball very quickly. We struggled to match the pace and the leap of the Rokewood girls who seemed to have arm's everywhere consistently turning the ball over. Award winners, Laura fay and Ella McLean tried gallantly in defence to stop the flow of goals taking more intercepts in the second half but by then it was too late, skipton going down 22 to 67. Goaler Amy Dridan in her first game up this year took the skinny sisters award.
