ROUND 16 V CRESWICK
Prior to the senior game both clubs, football and netball, came together to share a minutes silence for Lachie Poulter of the Dunnstown Football Netball Club. Thanks to all for supporting this.
FOOTBALL
Creswick visited a windy Skipton on Saturday. With a strong wind pushing the play into the scoreboard pocket for a lot of the day.
U12s were not deterred by the conditions and managed 9.5-59 to Creswick’s 1.1-7. Pinky’s Pizza award went to Pat Gowans, the Skipcoin award went to James Read and the Bakers Delight award to Harry Collins.
U15s are creeping closer to an undefeated season with only Carngham Linton standing in their way for the home and away rounds. The coaching panel led by Kelvin Scott are doing a great job of keeping the boys focused on the task at hand and making sure that the essential team work is instilled into our lads, as they know that teams win finals, not half a dozen individuals. Skipton 8.4-52 defeated Creswick 2.2-14. Cameron Gardiner wins the Pinky’s award, Aiden Walsh the Skipcoin voucher and Blake Scott the Bakers Delight award. U18s When light on number wise we need everything going our way. Unfortunately that was not the case for our team with injuries to a couple of players making things tougher again. Skipton 0.4-4 to Creswick 12.14-86. Pinky’s to Jonah Moloney Wise, Skipcoin to Andrew Jackson and Emu Creek Deli and Gifts to Cree Stranks. Regardless of numbers, injuries or opposition the boys play their best, their coach Chris Jones is always positive, teaching and trying to improve the team and players. Let’s all give them all the support they deserve for the final game at Snake Valley. Reserves played well against a side that will play finals, maybe telling a tale of the season that could have been, a little more fitness, a little more settled and some focus could see a side climb the ladder in 2019. Skipton 2.4-16 to 4.10-34. Josh Appleby and Alex McLean were good investments for their respective syndicates. Seniors started with plenty of the ball, but whether it was the wind or the congestion could only kick point after point. At half time the score was 1.11-17 to 4.2-26. Anxious supporters were nervous into the start of the third, hoping we could get going and capitalise on our dominant play around the ground, praying that Creswick wouldn’t break away. Fortunately Skipton had the best of a low scoring term into the wind, drawing level at three quarter time. In the last we opened the game up, pushing hard, using the ball much better to blow the opposition away. Final scores 8.17-65 to Creswick 5.3-33. Syndicates were well rewarded for the good performance of Xavier Lourey and Kal Dubbeldam. Unfortunately in the closing seconds of the game James Welsh sustained a nasty injury from a head clash. Reports on Sunday morning tell of a broken cheekbone and eye socket, no doubt a headache as well. All the best Welshy, hope your recovery is a speedy one.
NETBALL
It was a tough day out for goalies with strong winds when we took on Creswick at Creswick on Saturday.
And the run continues, our 13bs remain undefeated after a fantastic 19 to 2 goal win. Their play continues to improve, their backing up of each other was a highlight of the game. Awards this week went to Keeley Clark and Bronte Molloy.
After a slower start for our under 13as they upped the pressure and intensity in the second half. This improved thier game and attitude as the managed to creep back the margin and went down by just 4 goals in the end,13 to 17. Lauren Bodman and Silver Victorsen received the awards.
The 15 and 17 girls both had tough games in very windy conditions. The girls worked hard in defence getting rebounds and clearing the ball into the attacking end where the girls tried to get the ball through the hoop. Award winners were Ceilidh and Alex in the 15's and Ruby and Annie in the 17's.
4 under 17s girls then backed up and played in the c grade game to help out with our injury shortage. They stepped up well and with some rather nasty comments and play from the opposition, held themselves extremely well. It was a fantastic effort from the girls with awards to Ruby Bingham, Anna Walker and Abbey Tiley.
Then we had a win! B grade played an incredibly intense game with some fantastic intercepts in defence being converted into skipton goals. It was a wonderful game to watch with a very positive attitude throughout the game.
Well done to all girls on the 30 to 24 goal win with awards to Amy Dridan, Georgie Fay and Jaymee Crack.
A grade started the game well and kept with Creswick for the first quarter but unfortunately Creswick put the foot down in the second. We then replied with a better third term before Creswick dominated the fourth. So the game ended up with the final scoreline going Creswicks way 27 to 61. Awards went to Liz Barr, Amelia Pollock and Erin Gillespie.
After the game finished we were briefly entertained by the sight of a large man on a small motorbike circumnavigating the oval until he ran out of fuel. “Bike Lotto” was the theme, and I warmed to the idea when amongst the winners was Nicholas Bodman, the recipient of a football for a small investment.
